Leominster Attractions
Combining a strong sense of history with an eclectic mixture of retail outlets makes Leominster a unique shopping experience. From the open air market in Corn Square to the Antique house in Broad Street and an auctioneer specialising in exclusive art, there is something for everyone. An array of gift shops, a drapery and an aptly named Mousetrap Cheese shop what better way to while away a few hours during the Summer.
There are plenty of people watching to be done outside the various local pubs, like the Black Horse Coach House, the Grape Vault and the Talbot. The town is well served by the Shebagh Indian Restaurant and the ever popular traditional Fish and Chip shop.
An interesting place to drop into is the Lion Gallery which is where work by local artists can be found. The public are always welcome to wander around the ever changing exhibitions and you never know you could find your very own masterpiece to take home.
Since 1980 there has been a festival held in Leominster, performing back then were the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra and since the 80s they have been very regular contributors. It is held at the start of June and is very popular with the towns many visitors.
Offering a glimpse into the past is Berrington Hall, an imposing mansion set in gardens designed by the legendary Capability Brown. The interior is a great example of the era and the mix of Georgian and Victorian period features makes it very interesting indeed.
At Queenswood Country Park there is something for all ages, including an adventure playground for the children to enjoy and an Arboretum with a fine group of Redwood trees and an Oak avenue featuring forty species. If the weather stays dry there are picnic tables or if you prefer be waited on at the fully licensed restaurant.
A visit to Leominster will stir a love of history and an appreciation of the beautiful Herefordshire countryside. It will be a place you will want to return to again and again.
